Aurora G. Salinas

Aurora Guzman Salinas, a native resident of Edinburg and San Antonio for the past seven years passed on to be with her Maker in Heaven on Thursday, March 18, 2010, at the age of 80. Aurora was born in Edinburg, Texas on September 7, 1929, to one of Edinburg’s pioneer families, Enrique G. Guzman and Maria Munoz Guzman. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ruben Rolando Salinas; her parents, Enrique and Maria M. Guzman of Edinburg; her brother, Henry G. Guzman of Edinburg; her sisters, Estella G. Martinez and husband Esteban of Mission; Maria G. Bazan of Hargil; Alicia G. Valadez and husband Roberto of Mission; Belen G. Vasquez and husband Raul of Edinburg; Lydia G. Guerra and husband Armando of McAllen; and Estefana G. Hinojosa and husband Alfredo of Mercedes.
Aurora attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School (now Sacred Heart School) and Edinburg High School where she was voted Most Beautiful her sophomore year and was a member of the Sergeanette Drill Team. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was also a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where she volunteered much of her time for the parish as she was a very devoted Christian in her Catholic faith. Some of her hobbies included; arrowhead artifact hunting, arts, and crafts with a special interest in floral arrangements and enjoyed working challenging puzzles which she would frame into art. She and her husband enjoyed many years hunting and fishing as well as traveling throughout the interior of Mexico where they also spent much of their time enjoying their vacation home in the beautiful mountains near Horsetail Falls.
Aurora’s career started as a legal secretary for the Law Firm of Ewers and Toothaker for 18 years where she then moved up and became a Court Reporter, Court Coordinator, Court Administrator as well as the Court Interpreter for the 206th District Court of Hidalgo County for 25 years. After retirement she moved to San Antonio where she spent the last seven years living with her daughter and son-in-law.
She is survived by her son’s Dr. Ruben Rolando Salinas of New Bern, NC, and Carlos Roel Salinas of San Antonio, her daughters, Diana “Dolli” Salinas of McAllen, Brenda Maria Gomez and husband Rolando of Edinburg; Ana De Luna and late husband Ricardo De Luna of Edinburg; and lissa S. Laughery and husband Kenneth of San Antonio; brother-in-law Eduardo Bazan of Hargil, and sister-in-law Gloria S. Garza of Falfurrias. She was also blessed with numerous grand children and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a rosary will be recited at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home on Sunday, March 21, at 7:00 p.m. A celebrant mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Edinburg on Monday, March 22 at 10:00 a.m. with burial thereafter at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery in Edinburg. Pallbearers will be Roland Gomez Jr., Christopher Michael Gomez, Jorge Juiz Hinojosa, Xavier Bazan, Aaron Javier Catoe, Robby Valadez, Matt Forrester, and Michael Anthony Gomez. Honorary pallbearers are Rolando Gomez Sr., Kenneth Laughery, Judge Joe B. Evins, Eduardo Bazan, Rudy Bazan, Armando F. Guerra Jr., Carlos James Salinas, and Daniel Laughery. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home of Edinburg.
