Beatrice Rodriguez

January 3, 1925 — September 17, 2016

Beatrice “Biddy” A. Rodriguez, 91, entered eternal rest on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at her daughter’s residence in San Benito, Texas with her family by her bedside. She was born on Saturday, January 3, 1925 at Jesus Maria Ranch, Hidalgo County to David Anzaldua and Eloisa Flores Anzaldua. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Raul Rene Rodriguez, brothers; Urbano, David and Oscar Anzaldua, sisters; Antonia “Toni” Trevino, Dolores Cisneros and Sofia Perez.
Biddy is survived by her loving children; R.R. (Cindy) Rodriguez, David Ignacio Rodriguez, Sr., George R. (Kim) Rodriguez, Dina D. (Gerardo) Montalvo and Melba L. (Dr. Curtis) Maynard, brother; Robert (Dulia) Anzaldua, grandchildren; Laura Stults, Lizabeth Price, David I. Rodriguez Jr., Jason D. Maynard, Deidre Ahumada, Kristen A. Maynard, Samantha Rodriguez, Christopher Rodriguez, Mark W. Maynard, Matthew Rodriguez and Kara E. Maynard, 7 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
If you heard her tell it, Biddy was born to ride horses. Growing up on a ranch gave her this gift. Giving her mother no choice but to sew pants for her, Biddy was often riding in races against boys from neighboring ranches. Putting off her chores, Biddy would frequently sneak off to read a book. Her passion for reading never diminished; it was a love she made sure to pass on to her grandchildren by reading countless bedtime stories.  Biddy was so dedicated to her education that she left her beloved ranch as a young teen to live with family and friends in Raymondville and Edinburg to attend high school. Once she graduated from Edinburg High School, Biddy worked diligently as a bookkeeper for the Hidalgo County Automobile Department for over 23 years. For all this, however, Biddy’s family was always the center of her life. There was never a day her husband Roy didn’t stop by her desk for a kiss as he performed his job as mail carrier. Her five children were her pride and joy and her grandchildren her cherished blessings. Biddy was a very kind and gentle soul; she had a loving heart and was always giving to others. Forever with a smile on her face and a song in her heart, Biddy handled life’s highs and lows with grace. Renowned for her sage advice, she always had time to listen. Biddy’s sweet tooth was legendary; she always had room for a cookie and would unquestionably prefer a scoop of ice cream to dinner. Her legacy as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and loyal friend to all who knew her, will never be forgotten. Her cheerfulness and witty humor have shaped the lives of those she loved. She will be terribly missed, but her legacy is a song that will continue on in their hearts forever.
Her family will receive friends on Thursday, September 22, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 122 West Fay Street in Edinburg. Catholic burial will follow to Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in McAllen. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be her grandchildren and godson; Ricardo Perez. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
