Benito “Benny” Lopez, Jr, 74, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at his residence in Edinburg, Texas. He was born on a Sunday, November 16, 1947 in Edinburg, Texas to Benito Lopez, Sr. and Gregoria Villarreal-Lopez. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters; Diana Lopez, Aurora (Gabriel) Guerra, Elma Reyna, brother; Oliverio (Josefina) Lopez and brother-in-law; Felipe Herrera.
Benny is survived by his loving wife of 28 years; Francisca Mothe Lopez, children; Cynthia (Gustavo) Quintero, Noe Lopez, Elizabeth (Daniel) Gonzalez, Yvonne (Isaac) Howard, Diana (Robert) Hahn, Dinorah (Mario) Leon, Emilio (Annette) Hernandez, Martha Marin, Jorge Mejia, Edgar (Jessica) Marin, Aaron (Sara) Marin and Victoria (Saul) Alvarado, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings; Olga Herrera, Mauro (Elma) Lopez, Deacon Ruben (Ninfa) Lopez and Deacon Gilberto (Elva) Lopez, brother-in-law; Ramiro Reyna and numerous nieces and nephews.
Benny lived in Edinburg all his life and was a member of The Church of Christ Latter Day Saints in Edinburg. He was self employed for many years as an auto mechanic. He was a gentle and humble man with a talent to draw, enjoyed buying and playing scratch off lottery tickets and gambling. Benny loved music and had the ability to play several instruments. He was a loving and humorous man who enjoyed saying jokes and spending time with his wife and family. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
His family will receive friends on Sunday, January 23, 2022 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM with a Talk to be held at 6:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Funeral service will be held on Monday, January 24, 2022 at 10:00 AM at The Church of Christ Latter Day Saints, 401 South Jackson Road in Edinburg, Texas. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, 1701 East Richardson Road in Edinburg. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be: Noe Lopez, Emilio Hernandez, Mario Leon, Saul Alvarado, Robert Hahn and Daniel Gonzalez. Funeral services have been entrusted to Johnny Garcia, Manager/Funeral Director and staff of Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home.
