Berta Z. Hinojosa

Berta Z. Hinojosa, 94, entered into eternal rest on September 15, 2010 at Edinburg Regional Medical Center. She was born on August 10, 1916 in Los Ebanos, Texas to Florentino Zamora and Marcolfa Flores Zamora. Mrs. Hinojosa attended Brewster School and Edinburg High School. Due to her mother’s death she became the matriarch of the family and saw all her brothers and sister graduate from Edinburg High School and later endured the departure of her brothers going off to war. While working at Guerra Brothers General Store in Linn, Texas, she met Margarito Hinojosa Jr., from La Reforma, Texas, and was married in San Manuel on November 25, 1956. Mrs. Hinojosa was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church and was especially passionate in decorating the churches alter with flowers that she would arrange herself. She enjoyed most of all caring for her husband and cooking for family and friends on Sunday afternoons where”Merienda” were always a must because “Tia Berta” expected company.
Mrs. Berta Z. Hinojosa was a member of the pioneer Zamora family of San Manuel, Texas and is preceded in death by her husband, Margarito Hinojosa Jr., parents, five brothers; Abel Zamora of Sullivan City, Ruben D. Zamora, Lisandro A. Zamora, David G. Zamora of Edinburg, and Rodrigo Zamora of San Manuel; and two sisters, Esther of Edinburg and Alicia Zamora of San Manuel; nephews, Abel Ruben and Roberto Rene Zamora.
Mrs. Hinojosa is survived by a brother; Enrique (Viola) Zamora from San Manuel and sisters-in-law, Delia Zamora, Esperanza Zamora, Cruz Hinojosa, Olivia Hinojosa, and Angelita H. Champion, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to give a special thanks to the staff at The Bridges Assisted Living in Edinburg, Dr. Raul Martinez, Dr. Linda Villarreal, and to her caregiver, Tana Ybarra, during her times of need.
Visitation will be held today, September 17, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg. Christian mass will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg. Christian burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg. Having the honor of serving as pallbearers are Roel R. Zamora, Noel A. Zamora, Orlando R. Zamora, Eduardo X. Zamora, David G. Zamora Jr., Lauro Zamora, Ronnie Zamora, and Lizandro A. Zamora Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Nene Z. Garza, Yolanda Z. Chapa, Belinda Z. Basaldua, Edna Z. Perez, Ana Z. Garcia, and Marcolfa Z. McQuillen. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
