Carlos “Moose” Garza, Sr., 77, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at McAllen Heart Hospital. He was born December 6, 1934 in Santa Anita Ranch, Texas to Jose Dolores Garza and Rosa Hinojosa Garza.
Moose is preceded in death by his parents and son; Jose Dolores Garza and brother-in-law; Fernando Zuniga.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years; Evangelina C. Garza, son; Carlos (Adelita) Garza, Jr., daughters; Marina Garza, Maricela (Librado) Lozano and Cadelaria Garza, brothers; Clemente (Arminda) Garza and Jose Adolfo Garza, sisters; Viola (Faustino, Sr.) Garza, Maria Lourdes (Pedro) Zuniga, Osvelia Zuinga, and Maria Guadalupe (Leonard) Hardin, daughter-in-law; Linda Garza, 9 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Garza worked at the Edinburg Housing Authority for 8 years, then went to work at Judge B. Evins Texas Youth Commission where he worked for 12 years until his retirement. He was extremely proud of being a part of the 1953-1954 Edinburg Bobcat State Semi Finals. He was a Spanish Lector for many years at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He loved to read and was devoted to his family and his community. He will be missed by all those who knew him and whose lives he touched.
The Garza family will receive friends today, Tuesday, March 27, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg. Christian Mass will be held Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Christian burial will follow to Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.
Having the distinguished honor of serving as pallbearers are Gus Casas, Joe Sandoval, Joe Rodriguez, Ronnie Casas, Faustino Martinez, Jr, and Joe Garza. Honorary pallbearers are Clemente Garza, Jose Adolfo Garza and the Edinburg Bobcat Class of 1953-1954. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
