EDINBURG — Ciro Trevino, 86, entered eternal rest on Sunday, January 12, 2014, at his residence in Edinburg. He was born in San Juan, Texas on April 18, 1927 to Teofilo and Areopaja Trevino.He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Antonia “Toni” A. Trevino; son, Ciro Leonel Trevino; brothers, Leonel and Agustin Trevino.

Left to cherish his legacy and memories is his daughter-in-law, Leticia Trevino; grandchildren, Robert Daniel Trevino, Aaron Andrew Trevino and Amanda Yvette Trevino; brother, Teofilo Trevino; sisters, Alicia Vasquez, Elodia Trevino and Areopaja Flores.

Ciro attended and graduated from Pharr-San Juan-Alamo High School and attended McAllen Business College. He had a long and distinguished record of public service. He received the School Board Trustee of the Year Award from the Texas Classroom Teachers Association and was recognized as a “Champion for Education” by the Region One Service Center Board of Directors.

Ciro proudly served his country in the Navy during W.W. II. He served on the Edinburg City Council as Hidalgo County Justice of the Peace and Hidalgo County Tax Assessor/Collector, a position which he served for six terms (1971-1996) 25 years of service. A longtime member of the Edinburg Housing Authority Board Ciro served two terms on the Place 7 seat of the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees. He was truly a “Public Servant” who touched many lives and will forever remain in our hearts.

The Trevino family will receive family and friends from 5 to 9 p.m. today, Wednesday, January 15, 2014, with a 7 p.m. celebration of his life at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn, Edinburg, Texas. Christian services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 16, 2014 at First Lutheran Church, 302 South Sugar Road, Edinburg, Texas with his cousin, Pastor Sylvia De La Garza officiating. Christian burial with military honors under the auspices of V.F.W. Post #8788 of McAllen will follow to Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen.
Funeral services have been entrusted to Johnny Garcia, Funeral Director of Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
