Cruz Hinojosa, 98, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Edinburg Regional Medical Center. She was born on February 28, 1915 in Santa Monica Ranch in northwest Hidalgo County, Texas to Margarito Hinojosa, Sr. and Liberata Longoria Hinojosa. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers; Margarito, Jr., Gumaro, Nicasio, Sr., Alvaro, and Jacinto Hinojosa, sisters; Sofia and Maria V. Hinojosa, and her beloved great niece; Jennifer Lea Champion.
She is survived by her loving sisters; Olivia Hinojosa and Angelita H. Champion, sister-in-law; Criselda V. Hinojosa. She also left behind nieces and nephews; Nicasio Hinojosa, Jr., Frank C. (Elia) Champion, Jr., Eddie R. Champion, David N. Champion, Anna M. Champion, Zulema O. (Johnny) Garcia, and Iris Y. Hinojosa, great nieces and nephews; Patricia A. Champion-Henry, Frank “Trey” Champion, III, and Victoria Champion-Cochran, Lyssa M. Garcia, Iris, Irma, and Melissa Ramirez, and a very special cousin whom she loved like a sister; Eva E. Hinojosa.
Ms. Hinojosa was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg. She was a devoted daughter, sister,and aunt who had a very kind and giving nature. She helped her sister Angelita and her husband, Frank C. Champion, Sr., raise their four children; Frankie, Eddie, Anna and David and their grandchildren; Patricia, Jennifer, Trey, and Vickie. When she was young, she enjoyed horseback riding, arts and crafts, quilting, and was a superb cook and baker. She loved spending time with her family, but her greatest joy was taking care of the children. She will greatly be missed by her family, friends and all those whose lives she touched. She was truly an inspiration to all who knew her.

The Hinojosa and Champion family received friends on Monday, March 25, 2013 from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg. A Mass will be held today, March 26, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. A Christian burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg. Funeral services have been entrusted to Johnny Garcia, Manager/Funeral Director of Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
