Dora (Dorita) Mendiola Flores, 92, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 from natural causes. She was born on a Monday, August 5, 1929 in Los Ebanos, Texas to Guadalupe Mendiola and Nazaria Solis Mendiola. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Manuel “Meme” Flores, son; Jose Omar Flores, sisters; Guadalupe Flores and Maria Nelda Spencer and son-in-law; Angel Jasso.
Dora is survived by her children; Alda (Steve) Flores Detrick, Dora Delia (Hector) Pena, Jose “Joe” Manuel (Olga) Flores, Neida Ella Flores Jasso, sisters; Melva V. Salinas, Flodia M. Flores and Eloise “Locha” Wright, brother; Humberto Mendiola, grandchildren; Omar (Lisa) Pena, Cesar (Monica) Pena, Lisa Pena, Nathan (Amanda) Jasso, Niekko (Taylor) Jasso, Nayssa (Rick) Flores Sanchez and Alyssa Flores, great grandchildren; Avi C. Pena, Eden R. Pena, Diego A. Pena, Sofia G. Pena and Layla Garza as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She married the love of her life, Manuel “Meme” Flores in 1945. Dora loved doing the Lord’s work, her faith as a devout Catholic was demonstrated by her actions at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, serving as a Lecturer, Eucharistic Minister, RCIA Instructor and leader of many prayer groups as well as the master of the cake walk at the annual church bazaars “carmes”. She loved visiting the sick in the hospital and praying with them. Her life was a living example of her favorite Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32 – “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.” She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all those whose lives she touched.
Her family will receive friends on Sunday, March 6, 2022 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM with a Rosary to be prayed at 6:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. A Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 7, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 501 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Catholic burial will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 3605 North Taylor Road in McAllen. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be: Omar Pena, Cesar Pena, Nathan Jasso, Niekko Jasso, Ricardo Sanchez and Lee Olivares. Funeral services have been entrusted to Johnny Garcia, Manager/Funeral Director and staff of Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
