Dora Guadalupe Garza, 86, entered eternal rest on Friday, May 5, 2023 at Edinburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Edinburg, Texas. She was born on a Thursday, July 9, 1936 in Mission, Texas to Jose “Chito” Vela, Sr. and Maria Azucena Collins. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Dr. Omar Garza, son; Omar Jaime Garza and sister; Janice Woodhead.
Left to cherish her memories are her loving children; Dee Dee Adame, Nellie (Mike) Martin, Alma A. Garza, Christopher Garza and foreign exchange daughter; Marie-Pierre Lahaye, siblings; Jose (Alma) Vera, Jr., Cristina V. Moreno, Alicia (Adan) V. Guzman, Juan (Benilde) M. Vela, Angelica Vela, Veronica (Samuel) V. Califa, Jorge (Belia) L. Vela, Jaime J. Vela and Ann C. Sharp, 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Dora was a loving and devoted faithful Catholic who was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She also taught Sunday school and was a member of the Altar Society. Dora was a member of the Pan American Round Table. She worked at the Palace Theater in the early 50’s. Dora lived life to the fullest and enjoyed traveling, cooking, sewing and working with crafts. She especially loved spending time with her family. She will be deeply missed by her family and all those whose lives she touched. The Garza family would like to give a special “Thank You” to Dr. Hector Urrutia, Amara Hospice, Patricia Torres, RN and all the HealthCare workers that took care of their Mom over the years.
The Garza family will receive friends on Friday, May 12, 2023 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 6:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace, Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn in Edinburg, Texas. Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 12:30 PM with Rev. Gregory T. Labus officiating at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 114 West Fay Street in Edinburg. Burial will follow to Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 3601 North Taylor Road in Mission, Texas. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be: David Omar Adame, Jr., Donald Omar Martin, Michael Vincent Martin, Bryan Daniel Garza, Bryant Stites, Juan Garcia, Jeff Tomlinson, Parker Jackson and Jaime Javier Fernandez. Funeral services have been entrusted to Johnny Garcia, Manager/Funeral Director and staff at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
