Elida Garcia, 66, entered into eternal rest on Monday, May 17, 2010 at Valley Grande Manor in Brownsville. She was born Setember 26, 1943 in Uvalde, Texas to Florencio Canales, Sr., and Guadalupe Burjuato.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Odon Garcia, Sr., brother; Francisco Canales, sisters; Matilde Canales, Irene Chapa and Manuela Nhels.
Elia is survived by her sons; Odon (Esmeralda) Garcia, jr., LeeRoy Garcia, daughters; Maria Michelle (Eddie, Jr.) Bazan, Maria Martha Garcia, brother; Florencio Canales, Jr., sisters; Estela Canales, Alicia Ortegon, nine grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Elida worked for the Hidalgo County Headstart Program from 1989- 2006 as a teacher aide. She loved working with children. She was known for her humor and was the life of the parties. She had strong faith and was a very spiritual person, but her greatest joy came from being with her family. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
Visitation was held on today, May 20, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Christian mass was held on Friday, May 21, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
