Elvira “La Doña” Herrera, 90, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at McAllen Transitional Care Center in McAllen. She was born on a Thursday, February 25, 1932 to Jose Encarnacion Herrera and Maria Isabel Chaires Pereira Herrera. She is preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
Elvira is survived by her children; Isabel Fernandez, Edith E. Segura and Miriam Segura, Jose E. (Rosa Isela) Segura, 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 1 great, great granddaughter as well as a nephew.
Elvira or “La Dona” as she was affectionately known was a devoted daughter, sister, mother and grandmother. She was known as a hard worker, retiring from Edinburg Manufacturing (Haggar Slacks) after many years. She was a member of the choirs at Holy Family Catholic Church, St. Joseph Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was looked at as a great pillar in the catholic community, many times being sought out for conducting rosaries. A special and heartfelt “Thank You” to Dalia Vela and the staff at McAllen Transitional Care Center as well as the hospice nurses at Allstate Hospice for the care provided during these past weeks. She will be greatly missed by family, friends and all those whose lives she touched.
Her family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM with a Rosary to be prayed at 6:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn in Edinburg, Texas. Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 501 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg, Texas. Catholic burial will follow to Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 3601 North Taylor Road in Mission, Texas. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be: Jose E. Segura, Alec Mareschal, Diego Segura, Jose Luis Newberry, Elias Mata and Carlos Cruz. Funeral services have been entrusted to Johnny Garcia, Manager/Funeral Director and staff at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home.
