Ernesto Cerda Jr., 86, entered into eternal rest on Monday, May 17, 2010 at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen, Texas. He was born on January 31, 1924 in Mission, Texas to Ernesto Cerda Sr. and Maria Solis Cerda.
He is survived by his sons, Rudy (Tina) Cerda, Ernesto (Alma) Cerda III, and Ruben Cerda; daughters, Elida Castillo, Eva Cerda, Elma Vera, Linda Cerda, Elvia (John) Miglozzi, hermie (Bill) bashell, and Corina Presas; granddaughters, Nora Elia Cerda and Rose Mary Cerda; and forty seven grandchildren.
Ernesto is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Corina Rodriguez Cerda; son, Roy Cerda; daughter, Emma Cerda and son-in-law, jesus Castillo. Mr. Cerda is also preceded by his brothers and sisters.
Ernesto was the owner and operator of Cerda’s Welding for 53 years. He loved fishing, wrestling, sightseeing, dancing, movies and to go the beach. He also enjoyed animals such as dogs and cattle. He will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched.
Family will receive friends today, Wednesday, May 19, 2010 from 10:00 a.m.—9:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Christian Mass will be held on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Christian burial will follow to Hillcrest Memorial park in Edinburg. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
