Gloria Esther Garcia

April 21, 1951 — August 30, 2022

Gloria Esther “Grandma Butterfly” Garcia, 71, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at her residence with her family surrounding her bedside. Acts 20:35 says; In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” So at 9:11 p.m., my family and I gave my Mom to the Lord. We Love her dearly, but she was tired and it was time for her to go home. The Lord gives and he also takes on his time, not ours.
She was born on a Saturday, April 21, 1951 in Weslaco, Texas to Rev. Canuto Garcia, Sr. and Inocencia Farias Garcia. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Canuto Garcia, Jr. and Rufino Garcia, Sr., sisters; Elodia G. Lopez and Raquel G. Balderas.
Left to cherish her memories are her children; Ross (Lorena) Beltran, Eva (Jose, Jr.) Cruz and Juan “Johnny” (Zulema) Garcia, grandchildren; Abraham D’Angelo Garcia, Lyssa Marie Garcia, Jason Timothy Cruz and Mia Nicole Beltran, great-granddaughters; Madison and Arya Garcia, sister; Elizabeth G. Ramos, numerous nieces and nephews.
Gloria lived in Edinburg all of her life and was a graduate of Edinburg High School Class of 1970. She was a member of the Apostolic Church in Edinburg where her father; Rev. Canuto Garcia, Sr. initiated in sharing the gospel. She worked at Scurlock’s Grocery Store and Valley Cab Company to provide for her children as a single parent. She graduated from the El Paso Police Academy in 1979. She worked as a Sheriff Deputy and Detention Officer for the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office for 20 years until her retirement 1998. After enjoying retirement for a few years, she started working alongside her son; Johnny at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home for the last 8 years. She enjoyed reading the newspaper and going out to eat cabrito at Rebecca’s Restaurant or eating seafood at King’s Inn in Riviera with her family. She was a loving mother who did things her way and instilled hard work and values to her children. She was a very strong independent woman with a strong faith in our Lord and Savior. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all those whose lives she touched. We would like to give a special “Thank You” to her nephew; Dr. Noel Lopez, Dr. Andrew Levine and Ivan Melendez for the care they provided. A special “Thank You” to Jessica Tamez for the loving care and attention she gave our Mom.
Our family will receive friends on Friday, September 2, 2022 from 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM by Rev. Cesar Tamez, Sr. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Christian services will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at 10:00 AM by Rev. Arturo Chapa in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg. Christian burial will follow at Val Verde Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 6200 Val Verde Road, Donna, Texas. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbears and provide law enforcement honors will be the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Deputies and honor guard. Funeral services have been entrusted to the care of her son; Johnny Garcia and staff of Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home.
