Horacio Laurel

November 28, 1935 — December 29, 2010

Horacio Laurel, 75, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg.  He was born on November 28, 1935 in San Rafael Ranch, Starr County, Texas to Marcos Laurel, Sr., and Lucinda Juarez Laurel.

Mr. Laurel is preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Dionicio Laurel, Marcos Laurel, Jr., and Raul Laurel.

Left to cherish his memories is his wife of 53 years; Esperanza Laurel, sons; Leonel Horacio (Melissa) Laurel of New Braunfels, Texas, Luis Homero (Noemi) Laurel of Austin, Texas, daughters; Marlin (Omar) Laurel-Castaneda of San Antonio, Texas, Marisol Laurel of Edinburg, brother; Eduardo Laurel of Florida, sister; Sabina Laurel Gonzalez of Rio Grande City, 11 grandchildren and 1-great grandchild.

Mr. Laurel graduated Top of his Class from San Isidro High School in 1955 where he also participated in all sports and band.  He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He worked for E.C.I.S.D. in the Maintenance and Transportation Department for 16 years. He loved to dance and enjoyed life to the fullest.  Mr. Laurel was a loving father and grandfather, who will truly be missed by his family, friends, co-workers and all those whose lives he touched. Special “Thank you” to all the Edinburg Nursing & Rehabilitation Staff and Doctors and Nurses 3rd Floor at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance for your care for our father during his time there.

The Laurel Family received friends Thursday, December 30, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a rosary prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.  Christian Mass was held Friday, December 31, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg.  Christian burial followed to Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.  Having the distinguished honor of serving as pallbearers were Daniel Laurel, Wesley Laurel, Javier Gonzalez, Homer Laurel, Omar Castaneda and David Dillingham.  Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.  You can visit his obituary online at www.ceballos-diaz.com.
