Indalecio "Lecho" Rivera Jr.

EDINBURG — Indalecio “Lecho” Rivera, Jr., 91, entered into eternal rest on January 13, 2014 at his residence in Edinburg, TX. He was born on September 10, 1922 to Indalecio Rivera, Sr. and Maria Garcia Rivera in Rio Grande City, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents and wife of 61 years, Maria Santos Fernandez Rivera.

He is survived by his loving family; sons, Raul (Dahlia) Rivera, David (Cristina) Rivera, Indalecio “Andy” Rivera, III; daughters, Celia (Bernardo) Salazar, Diana (Alejandro) Anzaldua, Sonia (Hector) Casas; sisters, Lorenza Lopez, Lilia Cordova, Isabel Suarez, Genoveva Leal; grandchildren, Rick Rivera, Monica M. (Marc) Tucci, David C. (Erica) Rivera, Cyndee D. Rivera, Mark A. Anzaldua, Alexsis M. Anzaldua, Krystal D. Anzaldua, Daniel E. Rivera, Ariel K. Rivera, and Mariah C. Rivera; great granddaughter, Caitlin M. Tucci and numerous nieces and nephews.

He lived in Edinburg most of his life and he proudly served our country in the Army during W.W. II in the European Theater of Operations, 45th Division, Company D/ 179th Infantry. He was a member of Capilla San Jose Catholic Church in Lull. He and his wife were very active in the church choir group, Lull prayer group, and Eucharist ministry. He worked at Tide Products/ Wilbur-Ellis Company for 35 years until his retirement as a Bookkeeper. He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing, golfing, drawing, hunting, and traveling, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family.

The family would like to give a special “Thank You” to the physicians and staff of Rio Grande Regional Hospital and Amara Hospice nurses and staff for their compassionate care provided for their “Dad”.

The Rivera family will receive friends and family today, Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 12 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg. Christian Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 17, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Christian burial with Military honors under the auspices of V.F.W. Post #7473 of Elsa will follow to Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Edinburg. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be Rick Rivera, Mark A. Anzaldua, David C. Rivera, Daniel E. Rivera, Rick Suarez, Mauro Fernandez. Serving as honorary pallbearers wIll be Monica M. Tucci, Alexsis M. Anzaldua, Krystal D. Anzaldua, Cyndee D. Rivera, Ariel K. Rivera, and Mariah C. Rivera. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
