Israel Fernandez

May 12, 1934 — January 4, 2016

Edinburg- Israel Fernandez, 81, entered eternal rest on Monday, January 4, 2016 at his residence in Edinburg. He was born in Santa Elena, Texas on Saturday, May 12, 1934 to Pablo Fernandez and Victoria Solis Fernandez. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Pedro (Lydia) Fernandez, Martin (Santos) Fernandez, Encarnacion Fernandez and Adolfo Fernandez,  and sister; Josefa (Jose) Jimenez.
Israel is survived by his wife of 52 years; Gertrudis R. Fernandez, children; Domingo “Sonny” (Maria Estela) Fernandez, Sr., Delma (Diego) Cavazos and Dina (Ruben) Lopez, sister; Alveza Nunzio, 15 – grandchildren, 15 - great grandchildren,  1 – great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
Israel lived in Edinburg most of his life and enjoyed arts and crafts. He rode his bicycle to work every day until his retirement in 2001. He was a labor all his life and worked for Donna Fruit Produce, Vale Mace in Edinburg, Sandia Depot, Collville – Wilson in Hereford, Texas, Wallace and Duncan Companies. He was a member of the Citrus Association. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all those whose lives he touched, but his legacy will live on in the Hearts of his family.
His family will receive friends today, Wednesday, January 6, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Holy Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Catholic Mass will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 501 East Kuhn Street  in Edinburg. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be Joshua Fernandez, Domingo “Sonny” Fernandez, Jr., Israel Alberto Tijerina, Adan Roberto Avila, Joe Demitrius Fernandez and Ashleigh Lopez. Honorary pallbearers will be his sons-in-law; Ruben Lopez, Diego Cavazos and his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
