James “Jim” Padelford BoWell, 85, passed away peacefully at his home in McAllen on Sunday, May 30, 2010. He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota to Ralph Bowell and Leone Padelford.
Jim was a successful businessman, decorated war hero and member of the Macalester College Hall of Fame Wrestling Team. Among his many accomplishments were the founding of The Sibley Co. in the 1950’s and Miller Mfg. Co. of So. St. Paul. Jim was decorated with The Navy and Marine Corps Medal for his gallant and successful effort to save 6 men from drowning while serving aboard the USS Defense which was under attack during the battle of Okinawa WWII. Jim will be remembered fondly forever by family and friends for his great energy and sense of humor. His loves included golf, fishing, diamonds and martinis.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, first wife; Jeanne, two sisters and four brothers.
He is survived by his wife; Alicia, daughters; Laura (Christopher) Mondau of Washington, Cynthia (Jim) Thompson of Minnesota, Jamie (Carlos) del Angel and Stephanie BoWell of Texas, sons; David, Mark (Cynthia), Scott, and Robert (Kaity) of Minnesota, 4 sisters, 2 brothers, 14 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service with inurnment will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Rio Grande State Veterans Cemetery in Mission, Texas with Pastor Ron Smith of Church Of The King officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to charity of your choice in memory of James “Jim” Padelford BoWell. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
