EDINBURG/SHARYLAND — Army National Guard Specialist James Alexander Flores, 20, of Edinburg, Texas, died Thursday, October 16, 2014. He was born November 5, 1993 in McAllen to Zenaida Flores. James graduated from Sharyland High School in 2012 where he was active in the JROTC program and fostered his love for the military. Upon graduating, James enlisted in the Army National Guard and continued to train as an infantryman. Despite his short time in the service, James received various honors and awards. He was also employed by Tomahawk Resources as a casing field hand.
Even after graduating, James remained committed to the Sharyland JROTC program and continued to mentor students and share his pride in the US Army.
James is survived by his two-year old daughter, Kelsey Lee Flores; maternal grandmother, Petra Molina; mother, Zenaida, and step-father, Guadalupe Vasquez; older sister, Savannah Gonzalez - Cabezuela; older brother, Michael Gonzalez; older sister, Krystal R. Lyles; younger sister, Dominique R. Moore; younger sister, Mackenzie A. Moore; and younger brother, Alfonso Cuellar. He is further survived by his four nephews: Dylan, Jason, Yohans and Giovan. James leaves a large extended family with many aunts, uncles and cousins.
James’ family will receive friends on Monday, October 20, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a military memorial service to be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Christian Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Christian burial with military honors under the auspices of the Army National Guard will follow to Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family will be taking donations to establish a scholarship fund in honor of James for the Sharyland JROTC program. Envelopes will be made available at Monday’s service.
