Joe “Don Joe” Guzman, 71, entered eternal rest on Friday, April 25, 2014 in Beaumont, Texas. He was born on February 8, 1943 in Edinburg, Texas to Jesus Guzman and Santos Moreno Guzman. He is preceded in death by his father; brothers, Jesus Guzman, Jr., Alfredo Guzman, Roberto Guzman, and sisters, Alma Gloria Guzman and Savannah Georgia Guzman.
Joe is survived by his wife of 46 years; Estela Guzman; Sons, Jay Dale Guzman, Jose Anthony (Rebecca) Guzman; daughters, Jo Ana (John) Velazquez, Elaine Collins; mother, Santos Guzman; sisters, Maria Ofelia Ozuna, Rosita Cruz, Elvia Guerra, Herlinda Martinez, 10 – Grandchildren, numerous sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Mr. Guzman proudly served his Country in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a truck driver for over 50 years, and he instilled the value of reading to his grandchildren by reading encyclopedias and other books. He also loved listening to music. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Family will receive friends Wednesday, April 30, 2014 from 3:00pm to 9:00pm with a prayer service at 7:00pm in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn, Edinburg, Texas. Christian services will be held Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 9:30am in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg. Christian Burial will follow to RGV State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be John Alexander Velazquez, Nathaniel Corbin Guzman, Micah Quinn Guzman, John Velazquez, Victoria Collins, Roman Arrendondo, and Jay Dale Guzman. Honorary pallbearers will be Francisco Cruz, Jr., Joe Guerra, Raul Martinez, and Ruben Gonzalez, Sr. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
