Jose "Joe" Angel Lopez, 72, entered eternal rest at Mcallen Medical Center on Thursday, July 1, 2010. He was born in Laredo, Texas to Abdon Lopez, Sr., and Beatriz Benavidez.
Joe lived in Edinburg all of his life and was a graduate of Edinburg High School, Class of 1955. He was a member of the US Army Reserve for several years and was a member of Alfredo C. Gonzalez American Legion Post #408 in Edinburg. Joe worked for International Paper COmpany for over 15 years and retired in 1999. He loved bowling, gardening/landscaping, playing pool, dancing and word search puzzles. He will truly be missed by his family, friends and all those whose lives he touched.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, brother; Raul Lopez, sisters; Delia L. Ruiz, Beatrice Coolidge, and brother-in-law; Erasmo Ruiz.
He is survived by Toy Lopez, his sons; Joe (Sandra) Lopez, Robert (Angie) Lopez, Randy Lopez, George (Mary Jane) Lopez, Brotehrs; Abdon (Alberta) Lopez, Jr., Rodolfo "Rudy" (Rose Marie) Lopez, sisters; Ester Collazo, Leonor (Juan Sr.) Ocanas, 9 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family received friends Friday, July 2, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. with a rosary prayed at 8:00 p.m. in the Family Chapel at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg. Christian mass will be held today, July 3, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg. Christian burial will follow to Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be Sergio Ocanas, Juan Jose Ocanas, Jr., Javier Collazo, Javier Sanchez, Ricky Ruiz and Rolando Ruiz. Honorary pallbearers will be Abdon Lopez, Jr,. Rudy B. Loez and James S. COolidge. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
