Jose “Pepe” Martinez, Sr., 78, entered eternal rest on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Edinburg Regional Medical Center. He was born on November 25, 1932 in Edinburg, Texas to Julian Martinez and Maria Almanza-Martinez.
Mr. Martinez is preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Mario Martinez, Wenceslado Martinez, sisters; Elena Garza, Maria Lorenza Garcia, and sister-in-law; Gavina Garcia.
Left to cherish his memories is his wife of 52 years; Justina “Tina” Martinez, sons; Rene (Molly) Martinez, Mario (Alma) Martinez, Jose (Alicia) Martinez, Jr., Raul Martinez, daughters; Sandra Martinez, Norma (Gilbert) Salinas, brother; Jose Angel (Evangelina) Martinez, sister; Juanita Martinez, grandchildren; Jaclyn Martinez, Koryna Martinez, Brandon Salinas, Justin Salinas and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Martinez loved music. He enjoyed playing the accordion, singing and dancing. He was a carpenter and loved woodwork. He will truly be missed by his family, friends and all those whose lived he touched. Special “Thank you” to BRIO Nurses, Sofia Coronado, and Gloria Raya for doing a wonderful job.
The Martinez Family received friends Sunday, January 9, 2011 from 3:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a rosary prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg. Christian Mass was held Monday, January 10, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Christian burial followed to Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Having the distinguished honor of serving as pallbearers were Mario Martinez, Jose Martinez, Jr., Raul Martinez, Gilbert Salinas, Brandon Salinas, Joshua Galvan. Honorary pallbearers were Rene Martinez, Daniel Rodriguez, Aaron Galvan, Eugio Diaz, Jr., and Randy Galvan. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
