Jose "Joe" D. Ramirez, 86, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Alfredo Gonzalez Texas State Veterans Home in McAllen. He was born on Friday, April 11, 1930 in Riviera, Texas to Tomas and Beatrice Ramirez. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother; Luis R. Ramirez.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 57 years; Mary L. Ramirez, son; Eddie (Maureen) Ramirez, brother; Camilo R. (Mercedes) Ramirez, sisters-in-law; Enriqueta Lozano and Rosario Villarreal, brothers-in-law; Jose Rodolfo "Rudy" (Mary Ann) Lozano and Fernando (Eva) Lozano, numerous nieces and nephews.
Joe proudly served our country in the Army during the Korean War. After returning home, Joe dedicated his life by continuing to serve others. He was an elementary science teacher at P.S.J.A., Counselor at North Junior High School in Edinburg, Principal at Lincoln Elementary School in Edinburg and Assistant Principal at South Junior High School in Edinburg until his retirement, serving as an educator for 39 years. Joe was also very involved at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg as a 4th degree Knights of Columbus - Father Jeremiah Casey Council 5598, Eucharistic Minister and Lector, marriage encounter and a member of the Serra Club and El Cid Caravan, Alhambra Charter. He will be missed by his family, friends and all those whose lives he touched.
His family will receive friends today, Thursday, October 13, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 501 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Catholic burial with military honors under the auspices of V.F.W. Post #7473 will follow to Palm Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Pharr, Texas. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be Ricardo Ramirez, Rene Ramirez, Bob Kufold, George Ramirez, Daniel Roma and Rene Cantu. Funeral services have been entrusted to Johnny Garcia, Manager/Funeral Director and staff of Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
