Jose Lauro Rios

Joe "Captain Joe Rios" Rios, 89, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at his residence in Edinburg. He was born on Thursday, March 22, 1928 in Edinburg, Texas to Arnulfo Rios and Teresa Saldana Rios. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Arnulfo Anival Rios and Ronaldo Rios, and sisters; Teresita Sanchez and Angelica Sanchez.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 41 years; Maria A. Rios, children; Gilbert (Nela) Rios, Joe (Nita) Rios, Jr., Diana (J.J.) Gonzales, Gloria (Ricardo) Cortez, Elva (Mike Torres) Rios, Jesse (Trent R. Lee) Rios, Jimmy (Debra) Rios, and Joel (Susan) Rios, sister; Bertha Gonzales, 23 - grandchildren, 30 - great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Captain Joe worked for the County of Hidalgo for over 41 years beginning as a maintainer operator. He then received his certification as a Texas Peace Officer and worked as a Deputy Sheriff - Civil Processor, Deputy Constable for Pct. 4 and retiring as Captain for the Hidalgo County Highway Patrol Division. He proudly served his country in the United States Naval Reserve during W.W. II. He loved being a public servant and spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
The Rios family will receive family and friends today, Thursday, December 14, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. with a Prayer service at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Christian services will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 10:00 in the Chapel of Peace with Pastor Nicolas Cabello officiating. Christian burial will follow to Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, 1701 East Richardson Road in Edinburg. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be: Gilbert Rios, Joe Lauro Rios, Jr., Jesse Rios, Jimmy Rios, Joel Rios and J.J. Gonzales, Sr. Honorary pallbearers will be: Sheriff J.E. "Eddie" Guerra, Rene Guerra, Armando Patlan, Judge Charlie Espinoza, Judge Homer Jasso, Sr., and Judge Terry Palacios. Funeral services have been entrusted to Johnny Garcia, Manager and staff of Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
