Jose Joel "J.J." Vale Jr.

July 31, 1934 — November 30, 2013

EDINBURG/PHARR — Jose Joel “J.J.” Vale, Jr., 79, entered eternal rest on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Alfredo Gonzalez Texas State Veterans Home in McAllen. He was born on July 31, 1934 in Rio Grande City, Texas to Jose Joel and Brijida Gomez Pena. He is preceded in death by his parents; step-father Amadeo Pena and brothers, Arturo and Roberto Vale; and sisters, Olga Ramirez and Olivia Moya.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 58 years, Eudelia “Lela” Herrera Vale; son, Joel J. (Cathy) Vale; daughters, Darlene L. Vale and Eunice (Roy J., Jr.) Garza; brothers, Armando and Arnoldo Pena; sisters, Ofelia T. Longoria, Oralia Trejo and Odilia Zuniga; grandchildren, Joseph (Amanda) Vale, Catherine Minerva Vale, Erica Lila Garza, Victoria Nicole Vale, Sophia Rose Vale and Lauren Lee Garza; and, numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Vale proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He was a fast runner, loved to dance and play pool and cards, but mostly he loved to get people to laugh and was the best story teller. He enjoyed spending time with his son hunting and one of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Vale was a public servant serving as Commissioner for the City of Alamo and serving on the Planning and Zoning Board in Pharr. He will truly be missed by his family, friends and all those whose lives he touched.
The Family would like to give a special “Thank You” to Dr. Curtis Maynard, Dr. Carlos Pimentel, Dr. Ramon Rodriguez, nurses and staff of Rio Grande Regional Hospital and the nurses and staff at Alfredo Gonzalez Texas State Veterans Home for all the care and compassionate services they provided. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Jose Joel “J.J.” Vale, Jr. to First Lutheran Church, 302 South Sugar Road, Edinburg, Texas 78539.
Visitation will be held today, December 4, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a Celebration of his life to be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street, Edinburg, Texas. Christian services will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, 302 South Sugar Road, Edinburg, Texas. Christian burial with Military Honors conducted by V.F.W. Post # 93 will follow to Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery, 2520 South Inspiration Road, Mission, Texas. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be Joel Vale, Joseph Vale, Eddie Trejo, Roy Garza, Jr., Arturo Vale Jr. and Jose Joel Vale. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
