Juan “Juan Banqueta” Mendoza, 89, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at Amara Hospice in Edinburg. He was born on Saturday, June 11, 1927 in Woodsboro, Texas to Salome Mendoza and Nieves Zamora Mendoza. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife; Petra Arce Mendoza, son; Ricardo Mendoza, grandson; Jesus Lopez, Jr., granddaughter; Christy Garza and his 21 - siblings.
Juan is survived by his children; Juan (Rosa) Mendoza, Jr., Ernesto (Maria) Mendoza, Nancy (Jose) Mendoza, Irma Nora Mendoza, Jesus (Maria) Mendoza, Salome (Selma) Mendoza, Cristelo (Janie) Mendoza, Omar (Patricia) Mendoza, Mary Mendoza Gomez, Anita (Noe) M. Carreon and Luciana Leticia (Eustolio) M. De La Rosa, 41 – grandchildren, 50 – great grandchildren, 13 – great great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
He lived in Edinburg all of his life and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. He was a senior at Edinburg High School in 1945 when he was drafted and proudly served our country in the Navy during W.W.II from 1945-1951 and then he re-enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951-1956. He received his High School Diploma from Edinburg High School and walked in his cap and gown with the Class of 2003. He worked with the Edinburg Consolidated School District for over 35 years in the transportation department as a bus driver. He loved to dance and enjoyed spending time with his family. His favorite phrases were “Que Suave” or “Andale”. The family would like to give a special “Thank You” to the Doctors and staff of Amara Hospice in Edinburg for the compassion care they provided for their Dad. He will be missed by his family, friends and all those whose lives he touched.
The family will receive friends today, Friday, September 2, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Chris Santangelo officiating. Catholic burial with military honors under the auspices of V.F.W. Post # 7473 of Elsa, Texas will follow to Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Edinburg. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be; Juan Jose Lopez, Jose Mendoza, Antonio Mendoza, Cesar Felix, Ricardo Gomez, Jr., and Omar Mendoza, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be; Jesus Mendoza, Jr., Rosalino Felix, Carlos Javier Gomez and Estevan Roman Carreon. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
