Juan “Juanito” S. Rodriguez, 91, entered eternal rest on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg. He was born on Tuesday, November 18, 1924 in Edinburg to Mr. Juan Rodriguez and Mrs. Bonifacia Sifuentes Rodriguez. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife; Maria Elisa “Licha” Estrada Rodriguez, 3 – brothers and 2 – sisters.
Left to cherish his memories are his sons; Antonio Javier (Lydia) Rodriguez, Jorge (Lydia) Rodriguez, Ernesto (Marivel) Rodriguez, Alejandro (Yvette) Rodriguez, Johnny (Melissa) Rodriguez, daughters; Maria Anna (Ricky) Garcia, Elisa (Acey) Robledo, Imelda E. Rodriguez and Leticia Rodriguez, 21 – grandchildren, 8 – great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
He lived in Edinburg most of his life and attended Edinburg schools and earning his letterman jacket playing baseball for Edinburg High School, but graduated from P.S.J.A. High School. He proudly served his country in the Army during W.W.II and was honorably discharged as a decorative veteran receiving the Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart Medal, Bronze Star Medal with cluster, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He worked for the City of Edinburg for over 33 years as an operator at the Water Treatment Plant station. He showed his family that even through adversity, you never give up. He was a great husband, father, and grandfather who provided for his family. He instilled in his family values, morals and to honor God. He and his wife served on the Parish Counsel for over 20 years and served as a Eucharist Minister for over 30 years and even with the help of his family assembled the booths and lighting for the Kermes at Sacred Heart for many years. He would not like to be disturbed while watching wrestling or his favorite teams; the Dallas Cowboys and Notre Dame. He and his family had a special bond that when he saw his family, he would tell them “Pappa” and they would respond with “Pin Pin” and give him a kiss. He will truly be missed by his family, friends and those whose lives he touched, but his legacy will continue through the memories he leaves behind. The family would like to give a special "Thank You" to Lydia Salinas, Serafin Castro and the Dr's and staff of Doctors Hospital at Renaissance for the care and attention they gave to their Dad.
His family will receive friends on Monday, August 29, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 501 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Catholic Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Catholic burial with military honors will be under the auspices of V.F.W. Post # 7473 of Elsa, Texas. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be his grandchildren; Bryan Flores, Steven Rodriguez, Acey Robledo, Elliott Richeson, John Thomas Rodriguez, David Alex Rodriguez, John Paul Rodriguez, Ricky Garcia, Jacob Rodriguez, Jaime Elias Rodriguez and Jorge Eduardo Rodriguez. Funeral services have been entrusted to Johnny Garcia, Funeral Director/Manager and staff of Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
