Lorenza Martinez, 94, entered eternal rest on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at her residence in Edinburg. She was born on August 10, 1919 in Matehuala, SLP, Mexico to Felipe Calvo and Catalina Medrano Calvo. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lucio Martinez; son, Jose Eloy Martinez; grandson, Eloy Martinez, Jr.; great granddaughter, Natalie Martinez; 4 – Brothers and 2 – Sisters.
Left to cherish her memories are her children, Julia Martinez, Maria Martinez, Catalina (Roberto) Avalos, Norma Galvan, Lucy (Joe) Nunez and Anastacio Martinez; brother, Polo Calvo; sister, Carmen Rodriguez; 20 – grandchildren, 27 – great grandchildren, 5 – great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Lorenza lived in Edinburg most of her life and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church where she served as a Guadalupana. She was a foster grandparent for over 25 years. She also worked at the Head start Program at Albores Courts Apartments for 25 years and El Tule Child Care for many years. She made the best refried beans and tortillas and no one ever left her home without eating a taco or anything else she had to offer. She was a loving, caring, giving and loyal woman that would always do for others before herself. She was an inspiration to her family and all who knew her. She will truly be missed, but her legacy will continue to her family.
The Martinez family will receive friends today, September 24, 2013 from 3:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed by the Guadalupana’s society at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn, Edinburg, Texas. Christian Mass will be held Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at 12 noon at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1302 East Champion, Edinburg, Texas. Christian burial will follow to Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be Sergio Sosa, Ramon Herrera, Steven Perego, Jr., Victor Galvan, Eric Martinez and J.J. Nunez.  Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
