Luis Olivarez, 76, entered eternal rest on Friday, December 2, 2011 at Audie L. Murphy Veterans Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on May 10, 1935 in Santa Cruz Ranch, Texas to Luis Olivarez and Macaria Casas Olivarez.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Dario and Alfredo Olivarez, sisters; Lydia O. Hinojosa, Elfida O. Casas, and Angelita Olivarez.
Left to cherish his memories are his sisters; Olivia Rodriguez, Hortencia Zamora, Jovita Rutledge, and Ernestina (Juan Manuel) O. Guerra, brother-in-law; Abelardo Casas, sisters-in-law; Olga Olivarez and Lucinda Olivarez, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Luis proudly served his country in the United States Army and worked for the San Isidro Independent School District for over 20 years as a media specialist and instructional aide. He was a friendly, generous person who loved country life. He particularly loved the San Isidro area and its people. He loved to do agriculture and was the caretaker for the Olivarez Family Cemetery. He will be missed by his family and all those whose lives he touched.
The family will receive friends today, December 4, 2011 from 3:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg. The funeral procession will depart from Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, December 5, 2011 for a 10:00 a.m. Mass at San Isidro Catholic Church in San Isidro.
Christian burial will follow to Olivarez Family Cemetery in Santa Cruz Ranch, Texas. Military honors will be conducted by V.F.W. Post # 9303 of Delmita, Texas. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
