Manuela Becerra Satterlee

Hargill

Manuela Becerra Satterlee or Mela to those her knew her, passed away suddenly on May 19, 2014.

Mela was the beloved wife of Harold Eugene Satterlee of Hargill.
She was the sister of Israel, Elva, Manuel, Eloisa, Felicitas, Ismael, Alicia, Luis and Delia.  She was preceded in death by her parents Roque and Teresita Becerra, bothers and sisters Angelita, Guadalupe, Salvador, Ernestina and Lionel.

Mela was generous and giving with her time and her home. She gave so much more than she received.  Her ranchito that she shared with Uncle Gene and Tia Locha was our family’s little piece of paradise.  The flowers in her garden bloomed a little brighter and a little longer.  The shade of her trees was a little cooler and there was always a breeze blowing through her backyard porch.  In the last couple of years Mela shared her heart and her home with her brother Lionel as he fought his final battle with cancer.  We lost Lionel, and Mela followed him too quickly.

Mela served the community of Hargill as the elementary school secretary and library aide for 25 years.  She was a good neighbor, a caring and supportive sister, a wonderful aunt and a loving wife.  She enjoyed getting together with her sisters for breakfast, as well as shopping excursions in town.

She will be dearly missed, especially by her nieces and nephews who loved her very much. The summer days and nights we spent at Mela’s house were the most fun and wonderful days of our childhood. When the family wanted to gather together, we always met at Mela’s house for weekend barbecues and family reunions.  Our lives were so much better because she insisted, indulged and invited all of us into her happy home.

A memorial mass will be held on Friday, May 23rd at 10:00 am at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini in Hargill followed by interment at Hargill Cemetery.
