Maria Alaniz

March 13, 1921 — September 5, 2011

Maria C. Alaniz, 90, entered into eternal rest on Monday, September 5, 2011 at McAllen Medical Center.  She was born March 13, 1921 in Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Diego Cantu Sr., and Paula Cantu.

Maria is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Elijio Alaniz, son; Hector Alaniz, Sr., brothers; Diego Cantu, Jr., Reymundo Cantu, Cruz Cantu, Jesus Cantu, sisters; Bertha Quintanilla, Eufemia Martinez, grandson; Benji Vasquez, great-granddaughter; Emily Grace Cantu and son-in-law; Dan Grummett.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons; Aristeo Alaniz, Marcos (Rebecca) Alaniz, Oscar Alaniz, Elias (Irene) Alaniz, Sr., Eliseo Alaniz, daughters; Elida (Matilde, Jr.) Vasquez, Emma Grummett, Estella (Scott) Allie, Elisa (Noel Sr.) Ysasi, Delia (Ariel) Martinez, sister; Elvia Cantu, 33 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren.

Maria was a hard working woman with strong faith and principles.  Along with her husband, they owned and operated Alaniz Grocery Store in Edinburg for over 28 years.  She was very devoted to her husband and children and was very proud of all her family.   She was a wonderful, loving, wife, mother, grandmother who was inspiration to all who knew her and she will be greatly missed.

The Alaniz Family will receive friends today, September 7, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a prayer service to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.  The family will meet at 9:00 a.m., Thursday, September 8, 2011, for a 10:00 a.m. Christian Service with Rev. Benny Royer officiating at Faith E.C. Church, 2011 S. Sugar Road, Edinburg. Christian burial will follow to Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Edinburg.  Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers; Aaron Ayala, Rolando Vasquez, Noel Ysasi, Jr., Elias Alaniz, Jr., Armando Alaniz, Marcos Alaniz, Jr., Antonio Vela, III, and Hector Alaniz, Jr.  Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
