Maria Del Carmen Hinojosa, 64, entered eternal rest on Friday, February 15, 2013 at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg. She was born in Edinburg on October 28, 1948 to Luis Vitela and Maria Del Pilar Mendoza Vitela. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Jose Baldemar and Luis A. Vitela, Jr.
She is survived by her husband; Tomas Hinojosa, sons; Gabriel (Erica) Hinojosa, Albert (Vanessa) Hinojosa, and Michael Hinojosa, grandchildren; Ryan, Brandon, Matthew, and Rita Carmen Hinojosa, brother; Ramon Eligio (Juany) Vitela, brothers-in-laws; David (Sylvia) Hinojosa, Eddie (Evelia) Hinojosa, Joe (Cindy) Hinojosa, sisters-in-laws; Lydia (Javier) Rodriguez, Imelda (Alberto) Garza, Aminta Limas, and Lorie (J.R.) Rios, uncle; Juan Mendoza, aunt; Maria Mendoza, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Carmen as she was affectionately known to her family and friends, was an avid gardener, loved sewing, watching her Mexican novelas, and cooking. She was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church where she served as a Cursillistas and altar server. She was a passionate educator for over 35 years working at Garza-Pena Elementary with P.S.J.A. I.S.D. and Travis Elementary, LBJ Elementary, Cano-Gonzalez Elementary, and Escandon Elementary with Edinburg I.S.D. Carmen greatest times were spent with her family and grandchildren. She will truly be missed by all those whose lives she touched.
The Hinojosa Family will receive friends today, February 17, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg. Christian Mass will be held on Monday, February 18, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Edinburg. Christian burial will follow to Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be her nephews; David Hinojosa, Chris Hinojosa, Albert Garza, Eddie Hinojosa, D.J. DeLeon, and Marco Garza. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
