Maria “Mary” Jesusita Martinez, 69, entered eternal rest on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at St. Luke’s Episcopal – TMC- in Houston. She was born on October 8, 1945 in Mercedes, Texas to Jesus Reyna Castro and Enemencia Rendon Castro. She is preceded in death by her father.
Left to cherish her memories are her sons, Javier Omar (Liza) Martinez and Reyes Martinez, Jr.; mother, Enemencia Rendon Castro; brothers, Felipe (Connie) Castro, Rosendo (Anita) Castro, Jesus (Lydia) Castro, Juan (Concha) Rendon and Everardo (Sylvia) Rendon; sisters, Isabel Twigg and Victoria (Robert) Zuniga; grandchildren, Marty, Brittany, Joshua, Joseph, Robyn and Madison; great grandchildren, Marcus and Melanie, numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary worked for the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District for over 24 years as an elementary teacher at Lamar Elementary and Cayetano Cavazos Elementary. She helped and touched the lives of many children throughout her teaching career. She enjoyed playing tennis, traveling, painting and rock painting, and spending time on social media keeping up with her friends and colleagues. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and enjoying nature. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, colleagues, students and all those whose lives she touched, but her memories will live forever in the hearts of all who knew her.
The Martinez family received friends on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a prayer service held at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Christian services will be held today, February 11, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
