Maria Elisa “Licha” Rodriguez, 76, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg. She was born November 30, 1935 in Edinburg, Texas to Regino Estrada and Josefa Garza.
Maria is preceded in death by her parents and sisters; Julia Barriero, Jesusa, Anita, and Abelina.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years; Juan S. Rodriguez, sons; Antonio Javier (Lydia) Rodriguez, Jorge (Lydia) Rodriguez, Ernesto (Marivel) Rodriguez, Alejandro (Yvette) Rodriguez, and Johnny (Melissa) Rodriguez, daughters; Maria Anna (Ricky) Garcia, Elisa (Acey) Robledo, Imelda E. Rodriguez, and Leticia (Frank Flores) Rodriguez, brothers; Zacarias “Kiko” Barriero and Amando Estrada, sisters; Margarita Borrego and Maria Elizondo, 19- grandchildren, 5- great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Maria served on the Parish Counsel for over 20 years and served as a Eucharist Minister for over 30 years at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She operated a day care at her home for over 20 years. She was very generous to the community and devoted to the church and family. She loved to watch “novelas”, boxing, old western movies , and was a Dallas Cowboy football fan. She enjoyed gardening and playing Bingo, but her greatest joy of all was spending time with her grandkids. She will be missed by all those who knew her and whose lives she touched.
The Rodriguez family received friends, Thursday, March 08, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home and from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a rosary prayed at 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Christian mass will be held today, Friday, March 9, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Christian burial will follow to Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen. Having the distinguished honor of serving as pallbearers are Jacob Rodriguez, Elliott Richeson, Bryan Flores, Ricky Garcia, Jr., John Thomas Rodriguez, Steven Rodriguez, John Paul Rodriguez, Acey Robledo, Eli Rodriguez and David Rodriguez. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
