EDINBURG — Maria Inez Briseno Vega, a lifelong resident of Edinburg and San Carlos area, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 2, 2014 at the age of 92. Maria passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Edinburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she had resided since 2010. Maria was born in Donna, Texas on January 22, 1922 to Cornelio Briseno and Maria Simona Marquez Briseno. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Luis Vega; baby son, Jorgito Vega; brothers, Pedro and Francisco Briseno; sister, Antonia Rodriguez and son-in-law, Reyes Rodriguez, Jr.
Maria is survived by her children, Jorge (Teresa) Vega, of Edinburg; Janie Solis, of Alamo; Lupita (Jesse) Sanchez, of San Juan; Ana Rodriguez, of Edinburg and Sonia Duffey, of McAllen; sisters, Felipa, Estefana, and Enedina Briseno, Teofila Hinojosa and Ernestina Aguilar; and brother, Zaragosa Briseno. She leaves behind her beloved 13 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Maria leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to pray the rosary and to lead those who need guidance in the Lord’s path. She was surrounded by love and respect from all her family. She will be deeply missed, but her memories will live on in the hearts of all her family, friends and those whose lives she touched. She is now at peace and praying her rosary for her family, and friends.
The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to the entire staff, nurses, and nurse aides at Edinburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their compassionate and caring services they provided for our beloved mom Maria.
The family will receive family and friends for visitation, today, August 5, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a Holy rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street, in Edinburg, Texas. A Holy Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg, Texas. Christian burial will follow to Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Edinburg. Her grandchildren will have the distinguished honor to serve as Pallbearers. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
