Matilde Vasquez

Matilde J. Vasquez, 82, entered eternal rest on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at his residence in Edinburg. He was born on Sunday, May 6, 1934 in Edinburg, Texas to Matilde Vasquez and Amalia Jimenez Vasquez. He is preceded in death by his parents, son; Benjamin Vasquez, and great granddaughter; Emily Grace Cantu.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 56 years; Elida A. Vasquez, daughters; Noemi (Ruben) Cantu, Lydia Vasquez, and Rebecca (Jose) Hernandez, sons; Rolando (Maria Elena Oliva) Vasquez, and Jorge (Gabriela) Vasquez, 14 - grandchildren, and 8 - great grandchildren.
Matilde lived in Edinburg all of his life and was a member of El Buen Pastor United Methodist Church. He served in the United States Army Reserve for several years. He worked for the City of Edinburg for 30 years until his retirement and then worked for the Edinburg Independent School District for 12 years until he retired. He enjoyed spending time in his garden, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family.
His family will receive friends today, Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. with a Celebration of his life to be held at 6:00 p.m. at El Buen Pastor United Methodist Church, 705 East University in Edinburg. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg.
