Under the undulating cloudy sky and under the rounded canopy of the swaying mesquite tree in the heart of the Martinez Ranch, the wind blew and blew. It dried our tears and refreshed our souls. On May 26, 2017, family was gathered to tell happy tales, to laugh, to eat and to have libations in memory of Natalio Martinez, “Nat”. Nat was born on January 28, 1945 in Edinburg, Texas. He was the son of Sabas Martinez Sr, a farmer and Eluteria Leal Martinez, a matriarch and domestic engineer. In Nat's 72 years of life he experienced the painful death of his parents and five siblings: Gabino, Luciano (Chano), Isidro, Trinidad and Irma. With much regret, Alicia, Alvaro (Margot), Ramiro and Sabas Jr and many nieces and nephews will be left to live life on Earth without him.
Life for his children will be filled with beautiful memories of a strong man that was their father.
Monica Martinez-Hamilton and her husband Casey James will miss his sense of humor and the unique way of calling and leaving extended, loud messages of song and annoyance for not answering his call. Uniquely Nat, his is sudden change of Spanish to country-accented English and “over yonder” kind of comments will be sorely missed.
Veronica Vazquez will miss long visits and his calls with the perpetual question of "'Tas dormida?" and her annual phone calls with the extended version of Happy Birthday sung loud in a thick accent on purpose. Her children Alejandro and Karina Aileen Vazquez will miss happy times having meals, selfies and great laughs. The apple of Nat's eye, his only great-grandchild, Aaliyah Lynn Vazquez will miss his love and warm naps on Welo's belly.
Rolando (Rolly), Nat’s only son, will miss a beautiful friendship, long meaningful conversations after work and his frequent departing words, “ya vayase con su esposa y su hijo”. Rolly’s wife, Linda also enjoyed his endearing sense of humor and phone calls. Isaac Romelo, all of 9 years of age will miss playing in the ranch with Brian and Angel(cousins)while Welo watched and played conjunto music. He will truly be missed by his family, friends and all those whose lives he touched. The Martinez family would like to give a special "Thank You" to Dr. Abdias Etienne, Paxvilla Hospice & Palliative Care Nurses and staff for all the love, compassion and care the gave to their father and family.
Nat was a practical man and lived life on his terms. Because he lived in severe pain for over twenty years, Nat chose to allow his end to come as gently as possible through renal failure. He believed that his day will come where Jehovah “will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” (Revelations 21:4) And Nat will be one of “many of those asleep in the dust of the earth and will wake up.”—Daniel 12:2. Finally, Nat found justice in Jehovah the Almighty God in Romans 6:24 “For the wages sin pays is death, but the gift God gives is everlasting life by Christ Jesus our Lord.”
The Martinez family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. with a Talk Service at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. A service will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home. Burial will follow to Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, 1701 East Richardson Road in Edinburg. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
