Norma Lydia Garza Ritchie, 74, died on Tuesday, October 07, 2014 @3:39 AM after a lengthy illness with COPD with her husband at her bedside. She was born August 25, 1940 to Juan Lino Garza and Clemencia Garza in Linn-San Manual, Texas. Norma is preceded in death by her father, Juan Lino Garza; mother, Clemencia Garza; brother, Lorenzo Garza; grandson, Patrick Ritchie and granddaughter, Dymond Ritchie.
Norma is survived by her ever loving husband of 49 years and caregiver until her death, Ronald E. Ritchie of Edinburg; son, Phillip Ritchie OTRT of Edinburg; daughters, Sonya (Hank)Lemke of Fort Worth, Texas and Jennifer Ritchie of Broken Arrow, OK.; 6 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter; sister, Gloria Garza of Pleasaton, California; brothers, Ruben (Dora) Garza of Spring, Texas, Jesus (Matilda) Garza of Hargill, Texas and Juan Lino Garza, Jr. of Silsbe,Texas.
Norma married Ronald on April 30, 1965 while stationed at Elmendorf AFB, Anchorage , Alaska with the United Stated Air force. Norma spent the next 20 years of her life raising three children while her husband served with the United States Air Force around the world. Norma and Ronald retired from the USAF in 1983 and retired in the Hargill area where she continued raising her three children while maintaining the house hold. She enjoyed working on her yard and trees, with her pets following her around the house. Norma is a breast cancer survivor, March 1988. Norma was a beautiful person who will be missed by all those whose lives she touched, but her legacy will continue through her family. “If you didn’t make time to visit me in life, why bother in death.”
The family would like to give a “Special Thanks” to the Amara Hospice staff for caring for Norma during her illness.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Norma to the Breast Cancer or COPD services.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 10, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr, Texas. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be Ronald E. Ritchie, Phillip Ritchie, Hank Lemke, Chris Sarber, Sonya Lemke, Jennifer Ritchie, and Sean Travis. Funeral services have been entrusted to Johnny Garcia, Manager and staff of Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street, Edinburg, Texas.
