Petra Acosta, 80, entered into eternal rest on February 16, 2014 at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg. She was born to Jose Sanchez and Tiadora Lechuga on March 30, 1933 in Veracruz, Mexico. She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Ofelia Acosta; brothers, Victor Rodriguez, Rodolfo Rodriguez, Alberto Sanchez, Alvaro Sanchez, and sister, Patricia Andrade.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Mateo Acosta Sr. and children, Jesus Acosta, Jose (Norma) Acosta, San Juanita (Denny) Odell, Miguel (Elisa) Acosta, Alicia Lovettt, Cristina (Paul) Armijo, Ofelia (Arnoldo) Garcia, Jr., Mateo Acosta Jr., Rogelio (Madelaine) Acosta, Richard (Guadalupe) Acosta; brother, Gabino Sanchez; sisters, Rufina Rivera, Guadalupe Alvarez; 27 Grandchildren, and 24 Great-Grandchildren.
Petra was a kind and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was always a best friend to her children. She loved cooking, was a dedicated gardener, and always had the spirit of hospitality. She was a devoted member of St. Francis Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church in Hargill, TX. Her loving memory will live forever in her children’s hearts.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 from 3:00pm – 9:00pm with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00pm in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg. A Christian mass will be held Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 2:00pm at St. Francis Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church in Hargill, TX. Christian burial will follow to Valle De La Paz cemetery in Hargill, TX. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers are Jaime Jose Acosta, Eric Elias Acosta, Steven Andrew Acosta, Michael Anthony Acosta, Orlando Acosta, and Jesse Acosta, Jr.
