Rafael “Ralph” Munguia, 65, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at McAllen Medical Center in McAllen. He was born on Friday, October 13, 1950 in Edinburg, Texas to Francisco Munguia and Constancia Ledesma Munguia. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife; Maria Elena Rodriguez, children; Efrain (Zenet) Munguia, Amanda (Armando) Criado, Ricardo Manuel (Lupita) Rodriguez and Johnny (Cynthia) Rodriguez, brothers; Raul (Dora) Munguia and Alex (Aracely) Munguia, sisters; Stefanie (Raul) Hernandez, Tina (Mike) Mata, Carmen (Rudy) Garza and Angelica Tippin, 15 – grandchildren, 2 – great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Ralph proudly served his country over 32 years in the Army and Army National Guard until his retirement in 2007. He served in Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom and the Liberation of Kuwait Campaigns. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, farming and spending time at the ranch. He loved nature and the outdoors, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family.
His family will receive friends today, December 17, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Catholic Mass will be held on Friday, December 18, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 501 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Military honors will follow to Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery, 2520 South Inspiration Road in Mission. In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in honor and memory of Rafael “Ralph” Munguia to: The Wounded Warrior Project or Charity of your choice. Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg is in charge of funeral arrangements.
