René Arcadio Rocha, loving husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, mentor, and friend transitioned from this life into eternal life on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 with his family at his side. He truly lived an extraordinary life, beginning as a star athlete in Brownsville, TX in the 1950’s and 60’s. He was a veteran of the United States Army, and served two tours in Korea. He recently had retired from the United States Post Office in McAllen, TX where he worked for almost 30 years.
He is preceded in death by his father, Roberto H. Rocha, brothers; Roberto, Jr., Raul, and Ruben Rocha, and sister; Olivia Rocha all from Brownsville, TX.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years; Nelda G. Rocha, sons; Roberto A. (Pauline) Rocha of Dallas, TX, and Rene David Rocha of Edinburg, TX, and daughter; Margot “Toti” (Rolando) Anaya of Edinburg, TX. He is also survived by his mother; Josefa R. Rocha, brother; Rogelio Rocha, sisters; Julia Ybarra, Norma Rocha, and Graciela Rocha all of Brownsville, as well as the loves of his life, 10 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.
Viewing will be held at El Buen Pastor United Methodist Church, 705 E. University, Edinburg, TX on Sunday, January 16th from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a celebration of his life at 7 PM. Christian services will begin at El Buen Pastor United Methodist Church at 9:30 a.m., Monday, January 17th, with Rev. Dr. Ruben Saenz officiating. Military burial will follow to Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery, 2520 S. Inspiration Rd, Mission, TX, under the auspices of American Legion Post # 101. Honorary pallbearers will be Hanna High School Class of ‘63 and American Postal Workers. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
