Rodolfo Eloy Garza

August 30, 1942 — July 4, 2015

Rodolfo "Rudy" Eloy Garza, 72, passed away at his home in Edinburg, Texas on Saturday, July 4, 2015 surrounded by family and friends after succumbing to Pulmonary Fibrosis for the last 5 years.  Rudy was born in Weslaco, Texas on August 30, 1942 to Demetrio Enrique Garza and Josefina Minerva Garza. He attended and graduated from Weslaco High School in 1962. Rudy was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the Vietnam War era. He attended Pan American University where he received his bachelors in Social Work. Rudy continued his education at Texas A&I where he received his masters in Education. Rudy was employed with the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District as an Educator for 32 years as a vocational instructor and visiting teacher.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Fernando Elias Garza. Left to cherish his memories is his wife of 46 years, Edna A. De La Garza Garza; son, Ricardo "Rick" E. (Paulette) Garza; daughter Patricia Lynn Fernández; brother, Erasmo Garza of Albuquerque, New Mexico; sisters, Sylvia (Bruce) Banks of Wimberly, Texas, Lydia Gonzalez of Mcallen, Texas; Brother in law, Jose A. De la Garza of Maryland; grandchildren, Randall "Randy" C. Garza, Eric M. Garza , Joe D. Fernández; numerous nieces and nephews.

Rudy was a sports fanatic. You could always find Rudy at the Edinburg North Cougar football games with his friends Rick Gonzalez and Omar Cura. He was also a long time Dallas Cowboys fan. Rudy was very proud of his grandsons and enjoyed spending time with them every chance he had.

The family would like to express their heart filled gratitude to the following:
Elma Perez, Gilbert and Vangie Aragon, Eddie and Yolanda S. Perez, family and friends that have shown their tireless support through visitation, food, supplies and cards. Doctors, Nurses and staff at University Hospital, San Antonio, Texas and the Administrators and Nurses of CIMA Hospice health services.

Visitation will be held today, July 7, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Catholic Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 501 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. A graveside service will take place on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be his grandsons and nephews. Honorary pallbearers: Rick Gonzalez, Omar Cura, Gilbert Aragon, Jose A. De La Garza, Israel "Buddy" Garza, Dan Garza, and Jacinto Garza.
