Rogelio “Roy” Gutierrez, 84, entered eternal rest on June 25, 2014 in Granda Hills, Los Angeles, California. He was born on March 24, 1930 in Mexico to Juan Gutierrez and Estella Chapa Guerra. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Orfelina “Linda” Gutierrez; and brother, Rodolfo Gutierrez.
Left to cherish his memories are his son, Gabriel (Rochelle) Gutierrez; daughter, Stella (Andy) Fischer; and sisters, Mina Gonzalez and Linda Langhammer.
Roy proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He worked at Williamson-Pies in Weslaco for many years and also worked at Dickies Company in McAllen until moving to Los Angeles in 1956. He loved to spend time bowling, fishing and hunting, but his greatest joy was bar-b-quing and hosting parties for his family. He was an inspiration for his family and will be greatly missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of his family.
His family will receive family and friends today, Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Catholic Mass will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Catholic burial with military honors under the auspices of V.F.W. Post # 8788 of McAllen will follow to Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
