Roman I. Ochoa, Jr., 72, entered eternal rest on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at his residence in McAllen. He was born on Sunday, January 21, 1945 in Edinburg, Texas to Roman Isauro Ochoa, Sr. and Guadalupe Cavazos Ochoa. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother; Nicholas "Nick" Ochoa.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 23 years; Maria E. "Tina" Ochoa, daughters; Vicky (Ben) Ochoa Guajardo, Cindy (Robert, Jr.) Ochoa Vela and Oralia (Dave) Robison, son; Roberto Recio, brothers; Dr. J.I. Ochoa and Ramiro Hector Ochoa, sisters; Sylvia (George) Wells and Nora (Esequiel "Zeke") Garate, grandchildren; Jimmy Cisneros, Alex Cisneros, Sophia Guajardo, Eric Flores, and Gabby Recio, numerous nieces and nephews.
Roman graduated from Edinburg High School and then left to proudly serve his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. When he returned, he attended college and graduated with his Bachelors degree in Business Administration. He worked for the City of Edinburg - Urban Renewal Department for several years and then worked at Region One Educational Service Center for 32 years, until his retirement. He also enjoyed doing woodwork, shopping on ebay and traveling. He also enjoyed playing the lottery and buying scratch off tickets, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all those whose lives he touched, but his legacy will continue through the lives and hearts of his family. "Semper Fi"
His family will be receiving family and friends today, Tuesday, April 4, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 501 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Catholic burial with Military honors under the auspices of V.F.W. Post #7473 will follow to Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, 1701 East Richardson Road in Edinburg. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be: Jimmy Cisneros, Alex Cisneros, Robert Vela, Jr., Ben Guajardo, Jeremy Garate, and Dr. Franklin Wells. Funeral services have been entrusted to Johnny Garcia, Manager/Funeral Director and staff of Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
