EDINBURG — Ruben Handy Cantu, 76, entered eternal rest on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at his residence in Edinburg, TX. He was born December 9, 1938 in Donna, TX to Carlos Cantu and Nellie Handy Cantu. He is preceded in death by his parents and 9- Siblings.
He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Otilia Chavez Cantu; daughters, Delia Ann Cantu and Stella C. (Jose Luis) Flores; son, Ruben Cantu, Jr.; Step-sons, Javier (Glenda) Chapa, Valentin Chapa, Isidro (Marinee) Chapa; Step-daughter, Lorena (Jose Roman) Palomares; sisters, Mary Esther Saldana and Estella Lopez; 17- Grandchildren; 6 – Great-Grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ruben H. Cantu worked as a truck driver for over 55 years. He was a big Dallas Cowboys fan who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time bar-b-quing with family; T-bone steaks were his favorite. He will be greatly missed by his friends, family, and all those whose lives he touched. “We will see you soon, Golon”.
The family received friends Tuesday, January 6, 2015 from 2:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. with a rosary prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg. A Christian service will be held today, Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1302 East Champion Street in Edinburg. Christian Burial will follow to Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Edinburg. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be Stella Flores, Roman Palomares, Nicolas Barraza, Ruben Cantu, Jr., Orly Zapata, Raul Cantu, Rigo Cantu, Mason Flores, and Dr. Jaime Morales. Funeral Services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
