Ruben Eugenio Saenz Sr, 69, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 28, 2024. He was born to the late Samuel and Carmen Saenz on March 10, 1955 in Edinburg, Texas. As the youngest child, he was doted on by his parents and older siblings. A lifelong resident of Edinburg, he graduated from Edinburg High School in 1973 and from the University of Texas-Pan American in 1994. On August 8, 1976, he married the love of his life and eternal companion, Elva Marroquin. Together they built a wonderful life and raised four children. He later became a loving grandfather who adored his grandchildren and great-grandchild.

It is difficult to put into words the impact he had on those who surrounded him. His kindness, patience and service touched so many lives. His love for his family, music and church continues as a legacy through generations. His family has precious memories of him being on stage playing his beloved keyboards with many Tejano bands in the Rio Grande Valley and beyond. He will also be remembered for his devotion to his faith and unwavering testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Despite his health challenges the last 15 years of his life, he continued to be a rock and patriarch for his family. Papi will be greatly missed but we know that families can be together forever and one day we will all be reunited and rejoice.

Ruben is survived by his wife of 48 years, Elva Marroquin Saenz; his children Maria Luisa (Randy DeLeon), Ruben Jr (Andrea), Daniel (Princee) and Mayra Lannette (Fortunato Gutierrez

Jr); his grandchildren, Rafael Alejandro, Maddison Lynn, Mia Loren, Randy Raul, Miriam Lizzette, Darin Daniel, Marlee Layla, Fortunato Roel, Timothy George, Zoe Renee, Maylene Lannette, and Francisco David; as well as his great-grandchild Marceline Luna. He is also survived by his brother Samuel Eduardo Saenz, sisters Maria Luisa Saenz, Carmen (Armando) Pena, and Blanca Margarita (Luis) Guzman and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Jorge Ramiro and Elio Saenz.
