EDINBURG — San Juanita “Janie” P. Salinas, 60, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg. She was born on November 10, 1953 in Rio Grande City, Texas to Merced Pena and Eniqueta Lopez Pena.
She is survived by her loving husband of 15 years, Cosme H. Salinas; son, Daniel Salinas; daughters, Denicia (David) Hernandez, Dilia (Ricardo) Flores; brother, Jose Noe (Diana Lee) Pena; sisters, Maria Isabel (Daniel) Vela and Noemi Herrera; 5 grandchildren, Alexander Salinas, Dante Hernandez, Zenaida Hernandez, Katia Flores and Sergio Flores and numerous nieces and nephews.
Janie lived in Edinburg all of her life and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She graduated from San Isidro High School in 1972. She worked as an inspector for the state of Texas for 10 years and then moved on to work for the Edinburg Housing Authority for 25 years until her retirement on April 1, 2014. She loved shopping, antiques and decorating. She will be greatly missed by her family, coworkers, friends and all those whose lives she touched.
Her family will receive friends today, Friday, August 8, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn, Edinburg. Christian Mass will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Christian burial will follow to the Pena Family Cemetery in San Isidro, Texas. Having the distinguish honor to serve as pall bearers will be Daniel Salinas, Lucas Pena, Nicholas Pena, Daniel Vela, Michael Vela and Alexander Salinas. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
