Teofilo V. Torres, 88, was called to be with the Lord on Monday, December 7, 2015 at McAllen Medical Center in McAllen. He was born in Edinburg, Texas on Saturday, January 8, 1927 to Encarnación Torres, Sr. and Anita Vallecillo Torres. He is preceded in death by his parents; wives, Felicitas Jasso Torres and Emma Garcia Torres; son-in-law, George Salinas; brothers, Encarnación Torres, Jr., Guadalupe Torres, Natividad Torres and Fidel Torres; sisters, Aurora Arteaga, Victoria Torres and Librada V. Torres; and brother-in-law, Esteban Arteaga. Teofilo is survived by his children; Dora (Fred) Morón, Josie Salinas, Mary Ann Lacey, Greg Pereyra, Macario Pereyra, Jr., and Marty Pereyra; brother, Rodolfo (Tina) Torres; sister, Anselma Partida; 3 grandchildren, Jennifer (Rene) Esquivel, Lori Morón and Felicia Salinas; 3 great-grandchildren, Alexandria Esquivel, Michael Esquivel, and Paige Palacios, numerous nieces and nephews. Teofilo served his country proudly in the Army during WWII.  Upon returning from the military he served as co-owner and operator of Torres & Sons Growers and Shippers Coast to Coast and farmed for over 30 years.  Using his farming expertise, he joined the United States Department of Agriculture for 26 years as a horticulturist.  He served his community as a member of the Knights of Columbus, Hidalgo Juvenile Court Conference Committee, as an active volunteer at St. Joseph Catholic School and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. His cooking talent for various community events and fundraisers was known and enjoyed throughout Texas for decades.  Mr. Torres co-founded the Alfredo Gonzalez American Legion Post 408 in Edinburg, Texas where he also served as Commander and Chaplain.  He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
His family will receive friends today, Thursday, December 11, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., with a Holy Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg, TX. Christian Mass will be held on Friday, December 10, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 501 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Christian burial with military honors under the auspices of V.F.W. Post #7473 will follow to Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Edinburg. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be Robert Rodriguez, Fred Morón, Rene Esquivel, Gilbert Palacios, Dan Flores, Leroy Garza and Don McMasters. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg, TX.
