Teresa “Nanny” P. Garcia, 94, passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at her residence in Pharr, Texas. She was born on a Friday, October 15, 1926 in Hobbs, Texas to Daniel Luis Perez and Luz Quinones. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Rufino Garcia, brothers; Luis Morales and Dagoberto “Beto” Morales, sisters; Maria “Nena” Gonzales, Eva Medina, Ninfa Ybarra and Maria Elvira “Vera” Garcia.
Teresa is survived by her children; Dr. Rufino (Maria D.) Garcia, Jr., Rebecca Linda (Dr. Robert F.) Smith, Lydia Elizabeth (Bruce M.) Garcia, Robert Lewis (Monica) Garcia and John Michel (Brenne Nicole) Carey, 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Teresa was a devoted wife of 48 years, supporting her husband throughout his military career, travels and church, as her husband Rufino was also a minister. Teresa had a love for music and sang with much love, devotion, humming any chance she could. She spent her life serving the Lord, loving her children, grandchildren & great grandchildren, and was a talented artist. Working with so many different art forms, crocheting, painting and decorating her home were among some of her talents. She was also known for taking pride in her attire and making a statement even at the age of 94.
The family would like to thank her “other” group of family, the incredible professionals who cared for her for over 6 years at The Gardens at Brookridge. She was loved by so many of the residents and staff, Teresa’s life was celebrated on a daily basis. Her wit, intelligence, comedic sense, constant joyous singing and her ability to quote scripture will be missed. Being the last of her family members to leave this earth, she will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all those whose lives she touched.
Her family will receive friends Sunday, October 17, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Prayer service to be prayed at 6:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Burial for Teresa will take place on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at 10:30 AM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, Texas. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be: Robert Louis Garcia Sr, Robert Louis Garcia Jr, Bianca Luz Garcia, Robert Franklin Smith Sr, Robert Franklin Smith Jr and Bruce-Garcia Dougherty. Funeral services have been entrusted to her nephew; Johnny Garcia, Funeral Director/Manager and staff of Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
