Victoria “Welita” P. Gonzalez, 89, Beloved daughter, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother and great grandmother was welcomed to our Lord on December 27, 2013 at Edinburg Regional Medical Center in Edinburg. She was born on December 23, 1924 in McAllen, Texas to Mr. Librado Perez and Mogoña Garza Perez. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Librado Gonzalez; son, Daniel G. Gonzalez; son-in-law, Erasmo Espinoza, Sr.; great grandson, Sergio Sauceda, Jr.; sisters, Felicita Gonzalez, Margarita Colunga and Esmerjilda Gonzalez.
Shortly after her birth, Victoria and her family called Edinburg, Texas their home for 89 years. In the midst of the World War II turmoil, Victoria met a young man, Librado Gonzalez, soon he became her lifetime “Love” and husband. They married on Saturday, April 1, 1944 and were happily married for 45 years until his passing on July 23, 1990. One of her greatest heartaches in life was in March 24, 1979 when her eldest son, Daniel, died unexpectedly in a car accident. Victoria never remarried, for her husband’s Love was continuously felt for years to come. She was the pillar of her family and touched many lives. She leaves a beautiful legacy through the eyes of her family. Her Love, Laughter and passion for life will continue to inspire us all infinitely. She will truly be missed by her family and all those whose lives she touched.
Left to cherish her memories are her sons; Juan G. (Martha) Gonzalez, Ruben R. (Aleyda) Gonzalez, Rene X. (Carla) Gonzalez; daughters, Belen Espinoza and Guadalupe “Lupita” (Esteban) Sanchez; daughter-in-law, Mary Perez; 18 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 30, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a rosary prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn, Edinburg, Texas. Christian Mass will be held today, December 31, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1302 East Champion Street, Edinburg. Christian burial will follow to Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Daniel Gonzalez, Jr., Esteban Sanchez, Jr., Gilbert Gonzalez, Ruben Gonzalez, Jr., Edwardo Espinoza, Erasmo Espinoza, Jr., Orlando Gonzalez and Eduardo Sanchez. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
