Zenaida Chapa

Zenaida A. Chapa known to all as “Mamo” passed away peacefully with her family by her bedside on Friday, September 16, 2011 at Life Care Hospital- North in McAllen. She was born November 12, 1921 in Hargill, Texas to Amado Anzaldua and Ignacia Zamora Anzaldua. Zenaida is preceded in death by her parents, husband of 63 years; Baltazar Efren Chapa, sons; Norberto Efren Chapa, Baltazar (Elva) Chapa, Eduardo Chapa, 6 brothers and 3 sisters.

Mrs. Chapa is survived by her sons; Oscar (Diana) Chapa, Daniel (Anita) Chapa, and Jorge (Nora) Chapa, daughters; Nelda (Paul) Pruneda, Nelia (Dr. J.I. Ochoa) Chapa, Naomi Adame, Norma (Fernando) Jimenez, Dora Maye Chapa, Tilly (Richard) Longoria, Zelma (Carlos) Gracia, Thelma Chapa, Lucia M. Vega, and Cynthia Chapa, sisters; Julia Munoz and Ignacia Tamayo, 22 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Chapa loved recycling, crafting, and quilting. She loved playing “Chalupa” with her family at home after their every Sunday dinners. She loved to make tamales. She worked for over 30 years as a Nursing Assistant. She was a vibrant, extraordinary, and loving woman to her family and all who knew her and she will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched.

The Chapa family will receive friends today, September 18, 2011 from 5: 00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg. A Christian mass will be held Monday, September 19, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Christian burial will follow to Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen, TX. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
